中共十七大、十八大代表;第十一屆全國人大代表、全國人大常委會委員、農業與農村委員會委員,曾在國外多所大學任訪問學者。兼任中國人口學會副會長、全球變化人文因素國際項目中國委員會副主席、中華全國青年社會科學工作者聯誼會副會長、農業部軟科學委員會委員、國家人口和計劃生育委員會專家工作委員會委員、國家規劃專家委員會委員、內蒙古自治區等一些省市顧問。《中國社會科學》、《經濟研究》等刊物編委,《中國人口科學》雜志主編;國內外多家著名雜志審稿人。中國經濟50人論壇成員。曾先后多次擔任世界銀行、亞洲開發銀行、聯合國開發計劃署、經濟合作與發展組織、國際勞工組織等國際組織項目顧問。擔任美國科學院項目顧問、2009年《人類發展報告》顧問委員會成員、世界經濟論壇人口理事會成員、英國皇家學會人與地球工作組成員、國際經濟學會第16屆世界大會籌委會委員、分會主持人。

社會榮譽

20世紀90年代以來分別獲得“做出突出貢獻的中國博士學位獲得者”、國家級“有突出貢獻的中青年專家”、出國留學人員杰出成就獎等表彰。近年獲第二屆張培剛發展經濟學優秀成果獎;第四屆中國發展百人獎;第四屆中國農村發展研究獎。被評選為“影響新中國60年經濟建設的100位經濟學家”之一
